Ijagbo to Benefit from KWACReSAL Central Nursery Project... • as Onijagbo of Ijagbo keys into the project implementation for his community • Appreciates Governor AbdulRazaq, World Bank, ACReSAL
In furtherance to the visit to the six selected communities ahead of the plan to establish nurseries for planting economic and valued trees for the benefit of Kwarans, the Kwara Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), today paid an advocacy visit to the palace of Onijagbo of Ijagbo land, Oba Buhari Adeniyi Sharafadeen Ilufemiloye I, for a rapid take-off of the project implementation in the state.
Alhaji Shamsideen Olatunbosun Aregbe, the State Project Coordinator led a team of staff of the the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) to Ijagbo, in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The mission was to facilitate the provision of 5 hectares of land by the Ijagbo community for establishment of the nurseries in the community.
Welcoming the team during the community engagement, the Onijagbo of Ijagbo land, Oba Buhari Adeniyi Sharafadeen Ilufemiloye I, described the ACReSAL proposed central nursery project as a great initiative, declaring his unwavering support and the entire community for it.
The monarch said the project will not only facilitate greater socio-economic development but also improve the livelihood of his people. He promised to relate with his community members to earmark a suitable land for an early commencement of the project.
“We have granted your request, seeing the project as a great initiative, and we welcome it. Please communicate any support you need to my office. I am ready to support this project,” the monarch said.
Earlier in his address, the State Project Coordinator explained that six communities in the State including Ijagbo, have been selected for the establishment of the central nursery project in Kwara.
“The nurseries will be of immense benefit to Ijagbo community. The central nursery project will serve as a platform for planting valued seedlings and economic trees that would be used to improve the livelihood of the community members. We will also be planting trees that can be used to control erosion in the central nursery” the Coordinator said.
He noted that ACReSAL project is a partnership between the World Bank and Kwara State Government, stressing that the project is also being implemented in 19 other states of Northern Nigeria and the FCT.
The Coordinator stressed further that the project will serve not only Ijagbo but also the neighbouring communities as well. According to him “We are not taking the land from the community, the land still belongs to the community. We are only siting the central nursery project here to serve Ijagbo and neighbouring communities.
“The Project Coordinator continued that apart from the central nursery project, Ijagbo is now one of our catchment areas. So, there will be other benefits for the community, including implementation support for farmers, capacity building programme for women and young people.” he said.
Present at the exercise were the High Chiefs, Community Leaders, and other stakeholders.
Earlier during the visit, the Kwara ACReSAL team was in Iponrin in Ilorin East Local Government to firm up discussions on the establishment central nursery project in the community.
The Baale of Iponrin, Alhaji Hamad Musa Otebakin IV, said all necessary preparation is ongoing to make sure the project is implemented in the community.
He said he is truly grateful to His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRazaq AbdulRaham, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, the World Bank and the Kwara ACReSAL for the inclusion of his community in the project.
“We can see that this is for the benefit of our community, your team have been open in all our engagements. You have our support for the project" the Baale said.
