ACReSAL Project on Assessment Tour to Lata Grazing Reserve.* ... *_seeks community support_**


Sequence to  the World Bank ACReSAL project's primary objective to increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in targeted watersheds in northern Nigeria and strengthen long-term enabling environment for integrated climate-resilient landscape management, the Kwara ACReSAL team today pays an assessment visit to Lata Grazing Reserve centre, Patigi LGA, kwara state.

The State Project Co-ordinator, Engr. Zubair 'Tunde Oloruntoyin who led the team during the visit to Lata community said the tour is to commence the assessment activities on the grazing reserve with the aim of rehabilitating the reserve.

He stressed that the project will start with 1000 hectares which will serve as a pivot for the whole 20,000 hectares in gaining the experience of adequate sustainability of the land.

Engr Oloruntoyin noted that at the end of covering the 20,000 hectares, both man and animal will be working in a symbiotic relationship, having the crop wastes for animal feeds and animal dumps for fertilizers and also, afforestation embraced.

He said as the project commences different committees will be constituted which will enhance the credibilty and sustainability of the project in the State.

The SPC, earlier commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for having the initiatives to key into the World Bank project to avert the effects of human activities on the environment as well as the development of the State.

He however sought for support and encouragement from the people of the community for the World Bank intervention measures to ensure their community development.

Responding, the Madami of Makun Lata, Alhaji Ahmed Saidu Dodo, appreciated the team for visit while pledging their total support towards the project intervention.

While giving preference to the Emir of Patigi, he noted that the Emir must be carried along on whatever activities to be done on the grazing reserve.

Other places visited during the tour were: Pasture Development Lata Grazing Reserve, Milk Processing Centre, Feedmill Centre, Tsatu River, Tiyefun River and Jagba River among others.
